Pop-up Library in West Palm Beach and History in Boynton Beach featured on Ninth annual Black History Month Trip for African American Travel Club

On Thursday, February 21, 2019, the ninth annual Black History Month Narrated Bus Tour hosted 57 members of the African American travel club Retirees, Seniors & Friends from Miami-Dade County and Broward County.  The sold-out tour (with a waiting list) featured the pop-up library in Historic Northwest in West Palm Beach and historic sites in the City of Boynton Beach, Florida.

Many members of the Retirees, Seniors & Friends are retired educators; they also had successful careers with other government agencies or were small business owners in Miami-Dade County and Broward County.

The African American travel club delivered numerous book donations for the pop-up library located in Historic Northwest in West Palm Beach, Florida which is a historic African American neighborhood settled by black pioneers from North Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and the island of the Bahamas.

The Black History Month program began with breakfast sandwiches catered by Troy's BBQ and pastries sponsored by Palermo's Bakery held at Salvation Army Northwest Community Center in West Palm Beach followed by delivering book donations to the Taylor Moxey Pop-up Library in Historic Northwest with escort assistance by West Palm Beach Police.  The tour then progressed to the City of Boynton Beach. During the tour's time in West Palm Beach, the African American travel club met pioneering Civil Rights attorney Mr. T.J. Cunningham who, with his brother the late F. Malcolm Cunningham, owned the second black law office in West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County, Florida.

The travel route included visiting St. Paul AME Church in Boynton Beach. St. Paul was established in year 1900 and is the oldest church organization in Boynton Beach, Florida.  Current building of the church was completed in 1954.

The bus tour also traveled along the Boynton Beach Avenue of the Arts District (Ocean Avenue) to view outdoor Kinetic Art display.

Dinner was held at Troy's BBQ in Boynton Beach.
